Commentary: Digital art has transformed from pixels on a screen to the AI-generated images we see today, with surreal multicolored backgrounds and uncanny hands. Just as a “time out” is a pause in the coordinated rush of an operating room, we could all take a second to pause and reflect with the speed at which technology and AI is integrating itself into the healthcare system. The goal of this hand-drawn digital piece was to mimic the bold, early styles of AI-generated images. As technology moves forward, whether we are ready or not, we must take a “time out” and consider how best to ethically partner with AI in medicine in a way that enhances clinical practice without compromising clinical care.
