Things I Must Do If I'm Going To Talk To Kids With Cancer

Morgan Biele

Author: Morgan Biele

Bio: Morgan Biele is in her second year at University of Michigan Medical School. While her love for narrative medicine began with writing, she has been refining her artistic abilities and has tried her hand at a comic. She hopes everyone checks out graphic medicine and considers it for any kind of medical communication!

Commentary: My days are filled with several very brief moments of reflection. I’m building a habit to look back often, and to look around me, but only in a few spare minutes. In this comic, I reflect on the thoughts that made working in pediatric hematology/oncology more rewarding and prepared me for the difficult conversations that arose. By practicing some metaphors, jump starting a reflective headspace, and walking to a shift thinking about creative writing, I came to see all the beauty in my day.
